Respecting Yourself

December 22nd, 2009

Why it is so hard sometimes to respect yourself? I find myself doing self-sabotage a lot and wonder why I can’t respect myself. When I eat more than I should or when I don’t care how I look, is a kind of disrespect.

This week I decided to pay attention to times when I find myself disrespecting myself and by being aware of these moments, I plan to be able to control it.

For this week’s affirmation: I accept and respect myself.

Snacks and Lifestyle

December 20th, 2009

I love snacks! I like to have some watching TV and some between meals.

Because we are always going around to meetings, office etc, snacks sometimes come really in hand.

We bought a cooler and put it behind the driver’s seat. I put there some bottled water, raisins, health bars, string cheese and beef jerky, so when a little hunger comes by, it is easy to grab something to eat. This way we avoid a stop in some places that would offer a lot of temptation.

At home now when we watch a movie, we usually have cucumbers, celery and red sweet pepper. They keep our mouths busy and the calories away.

I found out that I love cucumbers. That was a surprise for me.

20 minutes meals

December 18th, 2009

Eating slower is healthy and helps you feel full. We try to chew very well every bite and slow down. We try to not eat a full meal in less than 20 minutes.

6 meals a day

December 17th, 2009

There is so much different opinions on how many meals a day that it is really difficult to decide.

We are going for 3 main meals and 3 very light snacks. Since I’m a diabetic I think this is a better option. This avoids feeling hungry and then eating more than necessary.

One change a day to a healthier lifestyle

December 16th, 2009

I need to remind myself about this one every now and then. We decided to make one small change a day, so living a healthier lifestyle can be incorporated without dramatic changes, leading us to stick with new habits. We cut buying lunch when we are at the office and the sandwiches we eat we prepare at home. We add some fruit and some vegetables every time. This has worked just fine. We cut going out so much but we can do a lot better with this one. The documentaries we’ve been watching about food help us a lot, specially thinking about our choices and its consequences.  we talk a lot about our eating habits and the impact this might have on our lives, including the income we generate. You might think one thing has nothing to do with the other, but it does. If you don’t make good choices concerning your health, what makes you think you are making good choices in business?

We have spent money that would normally go to a restaurant in new clothes and things that could improve our health. This has helped us with some self-esteem issues.

Aromatherapy pillow spray

December 15th, 2009

If body and mind shut down instead of gently relaxing into sleep, stress remains. By processes physiological psychologists cannot completely explain, issues plaguing our conscious minds remain just below consciousness, and our brains “covertly rehearse” them as we sleep. Covert rehearsal, however, disrupts sleep cycles and interferes with periods of deep sleep. Liberally applied soothing essential oils will help get the rest you desperately needs.

The essential oil spray you put on your pillow will put your racing mind into neutral, soothing away your sense of urgency, replacing it with calm and contentment.

Add 2 drops of essential oil in a spray bottle and fill with water.

Spray your scent of choice onto your pillow about five minutes before you lay down to get the full affect. The idea is that soon, you will associate that scent with sleep and relaxation, and it will become an inducer of sleep.

Movies that help you loose weight

December 14th, 2009

This one is sure to make you think a lot before your next meal. Food inc talks about how meat is produced today and what we are really eating.

Eating during the holidays

December 12th, 2009

I heard on the Today show that on average people put on at least 5 pounds during the holidays. That is quite a lot and no wonder!

We did well during Thanksgiving, we didn’t lose but we didn’t gain either. Now, in two weeks we have Christmas. We will probably spend the day just ourselves, which makes things a little easier.

Self-Esteem and bergamot essential oils

December 10th, 2009

Unique aromas produce distinct physiological effects and mood states. Essential oils and flower essences can dramatically affect your feelings because your olfactory sense is directly connected to the limbic area of your brain (the seat of your emotions).

In practice Aromatherapists have found Bergamot essential oil to be useful for overcoming anxiety, depression, despair and worry.

Promotes balance to unstable emotions.
